Calculus 1: Educational Goals for Iva’s Spring 2014 class

  • Goal 1:
    To develop an understanding of basic concepts of calculus:

      – (instantaneous) rate of change;
      – cumulative effect, including its relation to rates of change;
      – the concept of infinitesimal;
      – the concept of limit.

    The corresponding assessment will be based on student performance on the in-class exams and homework, as well as the performance on the final exam.

  • Goal 2:
    To develop an ability to execute computations in the framework of differential and integral calculus. The extent to which this goal is achieved will be determined by student performance on the in-class exams and homework, as well as the performance on the final exam.
  • Goal 3:
    To gain experience working with practical and/or visual aspects of calculus. The extent to which this goal is achieved will be determined by student performance on the corresponding in-class exam and homework, as well as the performance on the final exam.
